460 WEATHERBY MAGNUM

We were asked many times to include data for this caliber on our website. And when we got a brand-new Weatherby Mk V rifle here, I thought I will get right down to it and do some shooting. I use a shot bag full of # 9 shot, weighing in at about 17 pounds, between my shoulder and the rifle when shooting off the bench. This set up works great.

The rifle is a Weatherby Mk V with a 26-inch barrel, and a muzzle break. We mounted a Leupold 1.5 – 5 X scope on it, using Leupold bases and rings. With this set up, the rifle weighed 10.34 pounds. So with a muzzle break and that shot bag, it is not that bad to shoot at all. Also, I did not get any volunteers to help with shooting, as I usually do with the smaller calibers.

We used Weatherby brass and the Federal 215 primers. All groups were 3 shots at 100 yards.

The following data was developed by my friend Mitch Carter, in a Weatherby Mk V rifle. It had a 26” barrel and a Weatherby Accubrake.
